Cornwall, in the deep south-west of England, is one of the most marvelous landscapes on earth.

Not only because of the spectacular landscapes, the white beaches and black cliffs, which have been carved into bizarre shapes by the wild North Atlantic over the thousands of years.

I love Cornwall because my dogs love Cornwall. Because my dogs are fundamentally right.

Cornwall is an ultimate wonderland for dogs and their humans. Even in high season, there are countless beaches where dogs are welcome off the lead at all times. The inland with its moors, stone circles and wishing woods offers them a welcome green contrast to the roaring blue sea.

The charm of Cornwall can hardly be put into words. I would like to let the pictures speak for themselves. Pictures from a three-month long summer journey, split into two destinations, the first in the windy south of Cornwall, in Penzance, second in the wooded north, in Lerryn.

We start in the south. We lived in Madron for three months. Madron is an old Cornish parish in the Hundred of Penwith, just next to Penzance. The views from the living room and garden overlook an endless landscape of fields that flows right into the ocean, in the centre of which the gigantic tidal island of St Michael’s Mount seems to be enthroned.

This is where our enchanted summer in Cornwall would begin.

The North

We have arrived in the north of Cornwall. In the 3000 soul community of Lerryn, located directly on the river of the same name.

With its massive tides right in front of our house, River Lerryn threatens to flood our car on some days, so we have to re-park it. After spending three months in South Cornwall, we have just 14 days here. There is no mobile phone reception. No shops either. To get to the next larger town, we drive up the enchanted country lanes for over 30 minutes. But we live on the edge of the forest, on the edge of the river, in a deep valley, with rustic footpaths and spectacular places to visit nearby. We set off to get there.
